She’d asked, what with the shooting and him thinking he was having a heart-attack, if she shouldn’t have his parents on speed-dial, in case Chris needs them. Eddie had told Ana about his will adjustment after the first panic attack. He doesn’t have to go out to know that Buck has Chris in his arms and that he’s no doubt making sure that Chris is nothing less than okay with the breakup. Less than fifteen minutes later he hears the front door open and close just before Christopher’s happy yell travels through the house. Luckily Buck is understanding as always and only replies with ‘omw’ when Eddie asks if he can come over. Buck tries to help, Eddie brushes him off, then goes seeking his help with his tail between his legs after he’s tried and failed to make it work his way. Well, he texts, because he still remembers that conversation in the fire house and how he’s blown Buck off and suddenly feels like a dick. It’s when Chris is quietly watching TV, apparently content that his dad was better off without Ana, that Eddie finally gives in and calls Buck. And if you’re not happy, then I’m not either.” That was enough for Chris, apparently, who expressed that he’d known this would happen, but he wasn’t mad, just a little bit sad. Chris had pouted for a few minutes before he’d brightly asked if that meant that Buck would be around more and considering that Eddie’s had to cancel on Buck more times then he was comfortable with because Ana had developed a habit of showing up unannounced, he could confirm that yes, it meant Buck would be around more. He knew that better than anyone.Ĭhris had come into the kitchen shortly after Ana had left, quietly asking if she wasn’t coming back from the way she’d said goodbye and Eddie had feared the worst when he’d explained that it would probably be a while before they saw her again. And probably saying that it was easy hadn’t been much of an argument. He’d thought that he was a convincing besotted boyfriend. Carla seeing right through him had given him pause, though.
And that wasn’t fair, not to Ana and not to Christopher.Įddie wasn’t kidding himself he was very well aware that while fond of her, he’d never loved Ana. He hadn’t had trouble committing to Shannon, had been all in with her almost since day one, but he guessed that Shannon may have scarred him so deeply that just the thought of trusting a woman that much again scared him senseless. But while Buck did everything out of goodness of his heart and a genuine wish to help, Eddie always had the feeling that Ana’s support came with a price. Ana is a wonderful woman, she stepped up enormously for him and Christopher in the last couple of weeks, offering the support only Buck had offered up to that point. To be fair, he still doesn’t know why the thought of a future, of a ready-made family with Ana made him lose his composure so much he had a panic-attack. For about an hour after Ana leaves Eddie is despondent, half-heartedly cleaning the kitchen in an attempt not to think about how he’s had to go and ruin everything with his stupid inability to just move on with his life.
